We are excited to share that People’s Solidarity Hub will be hosting a Fall Open House! Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 26th.
Open House attendees can expect a myriad of activities that will include campus tours, collective art making, political resource sharing, virtual tabling, good food, and sweet connections with members of the PSH network.
While the Open House will serve as a celebration, it will also be a reintroduction.
Campus tours during Open House will help the PSH community integrate all the changes that have happened since we first opened in May of 2022. PSH no longer refers to the lone teal building that inherited the network and mission of the Durham Solidarity Center. It now refers to a campus with 3 separate gathering spaces: the teal building at 1805, the white building at 1809, and the incoming outdoor space!
Another goal of this Open House is to expand the community’s understanding of PSH as a building vs a network. People’s Solidarity Hub is more than just the two buildings where the Triangle’s political community has gathered for over 1,400 events. PSH also encompasses the hundreds of organizers and community members that have been the organizing power behind these meetings, gatherings, performances, film screenings, fundraisers, celebrations, and workshops.
This Open House aims to create a space where PSH organizers, staff, sustainers, and frequent attendees of PSH events can reunite, reflect, and potentially spark ideas for a collaboration in the coming year. To support community members in making this connection, attendees of the Open House will have an opportunity to go through the archive of public events hosted at PSH over the years and to learn about local organizations whose work is anchored in the space through virtual tabling. We also hope that some collective art making will spark conversations that lead to collaborations between previously unconnected groups in the coming year.
Lastly, the Open House is a unique opportunity for attendees to leave their lasting impression on the space by helping name the buildings. During the Open House, attendees will be able to vote on their top 4 names from the top category (as selected by community members during Phase 2 of our Naming Campaign).
We are one month into the naming campaign, and we have received over 2 dozen amazing submissions! We included some of the potential names below; you can check out the rest of the submissions by visiting the solidarityhubs.org/naming page.
We are looking forward to celebrating, reflecting, and dreaming with our PSH community. We hope to see you there!
