Outside of being an event space that hosts hundreds of events each year, another major operation of People’s Solidarity Hub is the Lending Library. Touting important direct action and rally resources like megaphones, speakers, walkie talkies, canopy tents, chairs, tables and more, the Lending Library extends the reach of PSH beyond campus across city, county, and sometimes even state lines!

The Lending Library is versatile. Community members have requested equipment to support workers’ rights rallies, Gather Good’s 5K Watermelon Run (which raised college funds for displaced Palestinian students), vigils for community members lost to state violence, community gatherings with a purpose like Bullhorn Fest and Swamp Jam, mutual aid fundraisers, and so many other rad political offerings. It has also been utilized for the social gatherings that help keep our community in loving connection with each other like birthday parties, baby showers, and celebrations of queer or Black or other identity-based joy.

The Lending Library is a proudly free resource. When we look at the numbers, People’s Solidarity Hub has saved the Triangle organizing community well over $30,000 by providing free critical assets like speakers, folding tables and chairs, and canopy tents! We know that this reduces both the financial and logistical strain on organizers, allowing them to focus on other important pieces of their work.
As you can imagine, our equipment gets pretty worn down after being used five or six dozen times in a year, sometimes traveling as far as Eastern NC (like some equipment did during the Long March for Unity and Justice) or to South Carolina (like some equipment did for the Southern Workers Assembly held in Charleston). In providing this resource to the community, PSH has absorbed the cost of purchasing, repairing, inventory-ing, and coordinating the pickups and drop offs of our equipment. But this is a cost that PSH and Southern Vision Alliance have taken on, at the behest of the local organizers who continue to direct and guide the work we do.
