SVA’s Digital Team Host Digital Defense Workshop

by | May 23, 2025 | Capacity Building, Movement Building

On May 14, SVA’s digital team came together to host a digital defense workshop for sponsored projects, staff members, and SVA grantees. The topics ranged from password management, multi-factor authentication, how to find out if your passwords or your accounts have been compromised, and data security and focused on providing upcoming organizations and groups with the knowledge to protect themselves and their ecosystems while navigating our increasingly unpredictable political landscape. Attendees of the virtual workshop were able to learn about digital security through a mixture of activities, discussions, and lectures.

Every year, digital organizing becomes more important for nonprofits to master. Twilio’s State of Nonprofit Digital Engagement Report in 2022 found that 89% of nonprofits surveyed said that digital engagement and organizing is necessary to achieve their organization’s vision. And while organization leaders are learning and mastering new skills such as creating newsletters, collecting data, building websites, and maintaining databases, it’s imperative that they also know how to cultivate safety and security in these environments as well.

Digital security isn’t something that should be left as an afterthought or prioritized after an incident happens. Our team is here to work with you to create robust and comprehensive digital security solutions for your organization. If you missed the digital defense workshop, we encourage you to request the video by e-mailing digital@southernvision.org OR visiting us directly during our open hours to talk with a member of our team about any digital security concerns or questions you may have.

We want to offer our thanks to Palante Technology Cooperative for their support in planning this workshop as well as the sponsored projects and grantees who trust us to support them.
