Wave, A Language Liberation Hub is a fiscally sponsored project of SVA, and has grown by leaps and bounds in the past year and a half. In addition to expanding our programs across the US South and nationwide (bringing language workers together with grassroots organizations to create linguistic democracy), we are also growing our organizational footprint in order to sustain the work we do and achieve our dreams over the long term.
One piece of our ambitious development (fundraising) plan is to call on the friends/family/colleagues of our staff and board members to support our work directly- this month, we’re launching our first online Peer to Peer fundraising drive with the goal of raising $10,000. We will use money raised from this individual donor campaign to support our Language Justice Network, including hiring our LJ organizer, paying costs for in person and virtual organizing and training events, and more!
One exciting thing about the campaign this year is that we’re giving away items to people who donate! We have a one-of-a kind, commissioned piece of language justice themed art we will share as an incentive to folks to give. Here’s the ways people can win:
- All donors who give $50 and up will get a free 4×6 in color sticker of the original artwork
- All donors giving $100 and up will get a free 11×17 poster
- All donors will be entered into a drawing to win one of 5 free signed, framed posters
Our communications team has partnered with our development team to create images and sample text to help our staff and board write the best possible emails and social media posts, and even sample thank-you notes so that each person who gives to us will get a personalized recognition of our gratitude.
We couldn’t have done this campaign without the support of the SVA Technology Crew, and Kameron Southerland in particular- through PowerBase, we were able to create a nice fundraising page where our friends and family can learn more and make a secure donation.
