The Carolina Youth Power Fund (CYPF) is a project of the Carolina Youth Partnership (CYP) and is a nonpartisan grant fund that offers $500-$1,000 grants to support organizing projects led by young people in the south between the ages of 13-25. In 2024, CYPF granted funds to 14 organizations in the South, including: Art of Healing Community Center, Kinetic Works, Kids Poetry Basketball, ME! Motivated & Empowered, UNCG NAACP Helping Hands Initiative
The Student Start-Up Sprint, Renewed Inspiration, Alpha & Omega Ministries, Art of Healing Community Center, Spread Da Luv, National Council of Negro Women, Inc, ShopAriOfficial, Mama Jean’s Community Pantry, and Room2growinc. Their community projects distributed food, led workshops, engaged youth, and advocated against sexual assault on college campuses.
To further the work of the CYPF and draw in more student leaders, the Student Advisory Board is being relaunched! Students and young people aged 13-25 will have the opportunity to grow their knowledge of nonprofits, civic engagement, organizing, mobilization, and grant processes from start to finish. This is a unique opportunity for young people to gain valuable experience and build their resumes, while supporting Southern organizing by students and youth.
This is an unpaid opportunity that will require approximately 5 hours per month and one virtual meeting per month with the CYPF Coordinator and other grant reviewers. Students on the advisory board will be ambassadors of the CYPF on their local campuses, marketing the opportunity and ensuring a broad reach. They will also review 2-4 grant applications per month using a set rubric to rate the applications based on relevancy and impact. Interested applicants can apply here. Please direct any questions to the CYP Program Coordinator Cotie at cotie@southernvision.org.
