Educate Not Incarcerate (Emotions)

In Wayne County in reference to “Educate not Incarcerate” it was to help with traffic stops and let youth understand their rights to a traffic stop and how to obey laws and be good citizens. We engaged with ACLU on brochures and in a better understanding of injustices.

In our organization we work in communities of Duplin, Guilford, Sampson and Wayne counties. We work with low income and African American mostly and we do not discriminate, anyone can join our forces.

We make our decisions by being a network and information exchange and issues that effect children and our families are priorities. We gather each year on June 1, to advocate and plan for positive changes.  A Duplin County Bard of Education member told me that when you come with a problem, come with a solution and if the problem may be solve, our organization ignites positive fires. In starting our first community tutorial program , it was because 3rd graders did not pass the EOG and those scores help build prisons. In beginning our first center in 1992 it was because young children were being killed and dying in our streets.

In reference to Harambee Child Development Academy in 1995, it was because of a lack in quality preschool education.  In working with the School to Prison Pipe Line and decreasing suspension rates, it was because I saw youth being suspended from schools regularly.
