Press Briefing: Directly Impacted Workers & Community Members Demand NC General Assembly Act Immediately to Provide COVID-19 Relief

(North Carolina) – COVID-19 has exposed the social, economic, and political crises that our communities have borne for decades. A broad alliance of grassroots organizations, NC United for Survival & Beyond, have released 10 demands of the North Carolina General Assembly and Governor to provide relief to vulnerable communities. These demands were released, circulated online as a sign-on letter, sent to Senator Berger and Speaker Moore, and over 220 organizations and 2,400 North Carolinians have signed on to them. Still, to date, there has been no response nor action from leadership at the North Carolina General Assembly.

“North Carolina needs to prioritize the public health and safety of patients and healthcare providers first. We need to expand Medicaid more than ever, especially to help reduce the disparities experienced by African Americans during this crisis,” said LaShonda Wallace, a family nurse practitioner and HIV care provider and advocate with Seeds of Healing.

What: Online Press Conference with speakers from across the state articulating why NCGA leadership must immediately enact the 10 demands during the special session to provide immediate relief to their communities in this time of crisis.
