Finance and HR Associate

Hours/week: 40 hours per week

Desired Start Date: August 1, 2023 or sooner

Compensation: Starts at $44,000 with an increase based on experience

Location: Preference is for Durham, NC or the Triangle area with occasional presence in the Durham office

Summary
The Southern Vision Alliance (SVA) is looking for a detail-oriented person with at least two years of nonprofit experience related to finance and HR administrative support. This applicant must have a demonstrated commitment to SVA’s mission, vision, and values.

Required skills

● Clear and demonstrated commitment to working with groups that represent marginalized populations
● Accountable to teammates and work plans, proactive, adaptable, responsive
● Task-oriented with good customer service skills, including timely email responsiveness.
● At least two years of experience in administrative support with finance and human resources
● Skilled at creating and managing spreadsheets (Excel, Google Docs, etc.)
● Experience with Basecamp, Canva, Google Calendar, Slack or ability and willingness to learn tools quickly
● Great people skills, emotional intelligence, commitment to ethical standards and teamwork
● Cooperative, honest, healthy ego in service to the work

Required knowledge
● General understanding of accounting, with experience in tasks related to nonprofit finance and the ability to play a supportive role to a diverse group of people.
● Experience with accounting software such as Expensify, Quickbooks, Bill.com, and database management systems such as Powerbase is a plus.
● Spanish fluency is a plus.

Responsibilities include
● Support the Finance and HR directors with administrative tasks
● Support the finance-related work with Sponsored Projects, funds, departments, and programs
● Routine filing of financial statements
● Accounts receivable and accounts payable tasks
● Regular communication with and support of staff, funders, and Sponsored Projects
● Updating fund balance trackers
● Send out monthly fund balance reports
● Organizing documents and maintaining filing protocols
● Support staff with timekeeping processes and tracking leave, paid time off, and holidays
● Providing administrative support for hiring processes such as note taking, filing
applications, conducting background checks, and reviewing resumes
● Support with compliance with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLC) and other legal requirements
● Suggest improvements or modifications for standard operating procedures related to HR processes
● Manage administrative details related to onboarding and orientation of new staff
● Edit and review employment agreements and contracts
● Maintain confidentiality of finance and HR matters and documents
● Must be able to attend weekly meetings on Zoom and occasional in-person meetings in Durham, NC.
