Position: Human Resources Associate

Hours/week: 40 hours per week

Worker Classification: Full-time, non-exempt, at-will, regular employee

Compensation Range:  $52,000 – $57,000

Manager: Human Resources Director

Location: A hybrid of work from home and occasionally in the Durham, NC office

 

Summary 

The Southern Vision Alliance (SVA) is looking for a detail-oriented person with at least two years of nonprofit experience related to human resources and administrative support. This applicant must have a demonstrated commitment to SVA’s mission, vision, and values. 

 

Required skills

  • Clear and demonstrated commitment to SVA’s core values of social justice, racial justice, and collective liberation in the US South
  • Clear and demonstrated commitment to working with groups that represent marginalized populations
  • Accountable to teammates and work plans, proactive, adaptable, responsive
  • Task-oriented with good customer service skills, including timely email responsiveness. 
  • At least two years of experience in human resources and administrative support 
  • Skilled at creating and managing spreadsheets (Excel, GoogleDocs, etc.)
  • Experience with GSuite, Idealist, LinkedIn
  • Experience with Basecamp, Canva, Slack and/or ability and willingness to learn tools quickly 
  • Great people skills, emotional intelligence, commitment to ethical standards and teamwork
  • Cooperative, honest, healthy ego in service to the work

 

Responsibilities include

  • Support the HR director’s processes and administrative tasks
  • Participate in HR-related professional development training to help integrate progressive, employee-friendly HR policies and processes that are supportive of BIPOC, LGBTQIA, people with disabilities and differing abilities, chronic illnesses, and other systematically marginalized identities 
  • Organizing some HR documents and maintaining filing protocols
  • Participate in liaising with SVA’s benefits broker and support annual benefits audits
  • Support updates of personnel handbook and HR-related policies and processes
  • Help with scheduling and logistics for HR-related meetings and events
  • Update professional development (PD) opportunities list and maintain records of staff’s PD usage and details 
  • Support staff with timekeeping processes and tracking leave, paid time off, and holidays
  • Support platform management and reporting related to staff benefits
  • Support HR director with implementing annual performance evaluations for all staff
  • Update templates for sample job descriptions and job postings
  • Update SVA’s “Guide to Hiring” as needed
  • Provide HR-related support to Sponsored Projects 
  • Providing administrative support for hiring processes such as note-taking, filing applications, conducting background checks, and reviewing resumes
  • Support compliance with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLC), employment law changes, and other legal requirements
  • Suggest improvements or modifications for standard operating procedures related to HR processes
  • Update the HR section of the Operations Manual as needed
  • Manage SVA’s insurances: Directors and Officers, General Liability, auto, and worker’s compensation insurance policies
  • Maintain accident reports and documentation
  • Maintain staff directory
  • Maintain personal demographic information files
  • Manage administrative details related to onboarding and orientation of new staff
  • Edit and review employment agreements and contracts 
  • Maintain confidentiality of finance and HR matters and documents
  • Participate in weekly check-in meetings with your manager
  • Join in-person at monthly all-staff meetings, the annual all-staff retreat, and the annual All Member Gathering at the SVA offices
