NC Disaster Recovery and Resilience Network chosen as host partner for the 2024 Rural Cinema Program

by | Mar 26, 2024 | Movement Building

The NC Disaster Recovery and Resilience Network is thrilled to be chosen as a host partner for the 2024 Rural Cinema Program.  From over 200 applications, the Network was chosen as one of only 6 organizations to host the 2024 Film Cohort.

The Rural Cinema Program is sponsored by Working Films; host organizations across the rural US put on community screenings of documentaries to advance social justice and environmental protection. We will be sharing films that highlight disaster recovery, environmental justice and climate change with our rural partners.

Working Films is building the climate movement in rural areas by providing equipment, training and technical assistance to allow us to leverage these films to amplify disaster recovery and its intersection with environmental justice and climate change. We will be using film to educate communities around the Eastern part of North Carolina from May through December.

We have fought many battles with legacy polluters. The processes they use destroy many of our most valuable assets – our trees, water and air. We must educate, but also mobilize our communities to action!

Having the opportunity to share films that highlight the crises of climate change and legacy polluters is part of the important work we do. The long reaching impact for folks here in NC, and across the US is pivotal, we carry the message that while natural disasters are inevitable, man-made disasters can be avoided. We are honored to be able to bring this program to our rural NC counties, and also excited about moving people to action – both individually and collectively for a better environmental future.
Stay tuned for our film lineup of dates and times!
