Response to Roe v Wade Supreme Court Document Leak

Response to Roe v Wade Supreme Court Document Leak

by | May 13, 2022 | Political Education

The Queer Mobilization Fund (QMF) at Southern Vision Alliance wants to express our dismay and outrage at the recent supreme court document leak that seeks to take away the right to access safe abortions. We know that these attacks on the rights of women’s bodies, and the bodies of all birthing people, are also attacks on the bodies of queer, trans, gender-nonconforming and BIPOC people. This, along with the most recent string of local, state, and national proposed laws aimed at disenfranchising transgender youth, is nothing new, as is the fight for gender equity. We must remain vigilant as the outcome of this moment may erode the right to privacy that protects not only health access, but LGBTQ issues such as marriage equality, intimate relations, and other reproductive rights that serve genderfluid and queer people.

At Southern Vision Alliance, our incredible programs support and uplift powerful grassroots movement organizations across the US South. Within the Queer Mobilization Fund, we stand in solidarity with QTBIPOC organizations across myriad issues via our annual grant fund to amplify the power and visibility of QTBIPOC Southerners.  It is our privilege to support and advocate for privacy, abortions, and medical freedom alongside organizations like Queer Doula Network, Richmond Doula Project, and Kuluntu Reproductive Justice Center.  By continuing to build power as a collective, our resilient communities will not stop organizing and mobilizing until we achieve liberation and human rights for all!

In an effort to sustain this movement and care for ourselves, we urge our communities to reach out to resources that will assist in providing much needed self-care during this time.  The Breathe Collective in Charlotte, NC, Chocolate Soul Revival in Durham, NC, Soulforce in TX + NC, 864Pride in Greenville, SC, Amplify and Activate in Charlotte, NC, and the Conjure in Durham, NC, are QMF alumni organizations that provide key healing justice resources and/or mental health support opportunities to those often overlooked in self-care spaces. Please check these organizations out and donate to support their important work!  You can also donate to QMF to support our regranting and capacity building work for organizations working toward the liberation of all marginalized bodies.
